About the Position:
The Municipality of Brockton invites qualified applicants for the full-time position of Child Care Manager. This position is responsible for the overall planning, development and implementation of age-appropriate programs to enhance the cognitive, physical, social and emotional development of children at the Brockton Child Care Centre (BCCC) in accordance with the goals and curriculum plans of the BCCC. The Manager will be responsible for the operations of the BCCC in strict compliance with the Child Care & Early Years Act (CCEYA), the Ministry of Education, County of Bruce Children Services, Grey Bruce Public Health and other regulatory bodies as applicable. This position will be responsible for the yearly budget and human resource activities for the Brockton Child Care Centre. This position is a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT).

The ideal candidate will have supervisory experience, be out-going and able to work well with families, regulatory bodies and staff. The candidate must be a respected leader, flexible, exhibit superior organizational capabilities have excellent written/oral communication and computer skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensures and facilitates the smooth functioning of all aspects of the Centre through relationship building in order to best serve children and families. 
  • Ensures licencing requirements are met at all times and policies and guidelines are established in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act and Ministry of Education.
  • Plans, consults, supports, evaluates and provides guidance to Supervisors and teaching staff in evaluating and revising children’s programming as required. 
  • Develops, recommends and implements short and long term plans for BCCC, services, programs and facilities.
  • Oversees and manages all elements of BCCC enrolment and ensures the smooth integration of new parent/child(ren) in the centre. 
  • Responsible for the recruitment, selection, hiring and orientation of all new staff to the centre, within Municipal approved processes and polices and CAO approval. Ensures appropriate training and performance review are carried out effectively.
  • Directs and manages all employees within the scope and responsibility of the BCCC while ensuring adherence with all health & safety and workplace policy.
  • Sets clear, results oriented departmental goals with staff with realistic and measurable outcomes. 
  • Recognizes, documents, and acts in case of suspected abuse, illness, or accident, reporting the incident as a serious occurrence, if applicable. 
  • Prepares, creates and manages the yearly budget in consultation with the Child Care Supervisors, CFO and CAO with adherence to County of Bruce guidelines for CWELLC funding.
  • Writes Council reports and provides strategic recommendations to Council and attends meetings as required to update on Departmental activities.
  • Ensures appropriate professional development opportunities are made available to Centre staff and in accordance with identified training needs of staff at the Centre.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and amends the BCCC Parent Handbook, centre policies and procedures as changes occur or as legislatively requires and develops, implements, monitors and evaluates policy implementation.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • University Degree or College Diploma in related discipline with progressive corporate administration/management experience in a related position. 
  • Children services programming or a Registered Early Childhood Educator (ECE) is preferred.
  • Must have 3 years experience related to a leading role in childcare programming.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Municipal experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Financial Management policies and procedures including budget development and review of expenditures against budget, and staffing levels. 
  • Must have sound knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated and thorough working knowledge of Provincial Legislation pertaining to the Child Care & Early Years Act, and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Demonstrated advance knowledge of the Emergent Curriculum and ability to mentor/coach co-workers.
  • Ability to be flexible to changing demands while maintaining accuracy.
  • Superior interpersonal skills with a high degree of initiative and dedication.

  • Rate of pay between $85,194 - $99,681 depending on qualifications and experience.
  • 35 hours per week. Typical hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30 pm.

About the Position:
The Municipality of Brockton invites qualified applicants for the full-time position of Child Care Services Coordinator. This position supports the Child Care Manager and Child Care Supervisors to ensure Ministry of Education licencing requirements are met. This position acts as a champion for positive daily interactions for families, staff and community partners accessing the Centre and provides administrative support related to licensing, internal/external communications & relations, programming, policy development and adherence to legislative requirements for child care operations. This position will also be responsible for routine finance functions including billing and reporting processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Energetic, dedicated and enthusiastic professional able to exercise sensitivity and maturity in dealing with both children and adults.
  • Maintains effective communications with users, staff, and families while adhering to department policies in relation to childcare licensing and programs.
  • Responsible to maintain and update the BCCC section of the website and social media pages.
  • Responsible for the preparation for client billings supporting the Supervisor(s).
  • Responsible for the preparation of bank deposits and month end reports supporting the Supervisor(s).
    Word processes a variety of documents, reports, minutes, letters, licencing documentation to support the Supervisor(s) and Manager.
  • Assists with Centre communication tools including newsletters, letters, website, Apps and social media.
  • Assists the Manager with preparing for licence renewal including records maintenance for staff and families.
  • Supports the purchasing of supplies for the office and BCCC programs and facility as required.
  • Assists with planning and organizing special events, field trips and parties.
  • Periodically supports coverage for staff on work periods/team teacher meeting etc.
  • Supports serving meals and snacks and eats with children and checks for food allergies as assigned.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Post-Secondary Education degree or diploma in Business, Office Administration, Early Childhood Education, Recreation or related field.
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing is an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience in administration with knowledge of financial functions.
  • Excellent Communication (written, oral and interpersonal) skills.
  • Superior Customer Service skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously in all aspects of the position, including diplomacy, tact, discretion and good judgement skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office (outlook, word, excel, power point) applications and facility booking software.
  • Knowledge of Keystone from work in a Municipal environment is an asset.
  • Child Care Centre experience is beneficial.
  • Ability to be flexible to changing demands while maintaining accuracy.
  • Works cooperatively with team members and staff to ensure necessary workflow and coverage.

About the Position:

Reporting to the Operations Manager and assigned Lead Hand, the Heavy Equipment Operator operates and maintains Heavy Equipment and performs all related Public Works duties for the maintenance, construction, and operation of Municipally owned and operated infrastructure and facilities.

Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the roads department, including working early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Carries out work assignments, using a variety of heavy equipment and other vehicles, power and hand tools, including physically demanding and repetitive manual labour as directed by the Lead Hand or Roads Supervisor, including but not limited to Snow Plow Truck, Sidewalk Plow, Motor Grader, Backhoe, Dump Truck and Floating Heavy Equipment.
  • Responsible for snow and ice removal on public roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots, often in the early morning hours, for long consecutive hours, and during unfavourable road and weather conditions.
  • Assists with construction projects and paving/ resurfacing preparation.
  • Repairs and installs road and street signs
  • Repairs and installs culverts
  • Operates chain saws, mowers, wood chipper and other equipment to cut trees, clear brush and cut grass in a variety of locations, including but not limited to public access roadways.
  • Performs grave opening and closing at the Cemetery with a backhoe and hand tools.
  • Responds to Emergency call-outs at any time of day or night (eg. road closures, downed trees, flooding events, assisting Emergency Responders)

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Applicant must be able to report to the Walkerton, Greenock or Brant Shop within 30 minutes of being called.
  • Holds a Valid Ontario Drivers Class AZ or DZ License with a clean drivers abstract.
  • Minimum grade 12 Education or equivalent education.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Knowledge of the maintenance and operation of heavy equipment.
  • Experience in operating snow plow, grader and back hoe an asset.
  • Ability to drive in difficult driving conditions for long periods of time.

  • Teaches gross motor skills, dramatic play, use of senses and science.
