Before You Dig

Are you:

  • Planning a home improvement project?
  • Installing a fence or deck?
  • Digging a garden bed?
  • Planting a tree?

There is an underground network of gas lines, telephone, electricity and cable TV wires, as well as water and sewer connections that could be damaged if you dig in the wrong spot. Digging without a locate is illegal and if done without a locate you will be held liable for any damage. 

To Register a Locate:

Before you call you will need to know:

  • Who is digging? For liability reasons, it is recommended that the person doing the digging submits the locate request
  • When you will be digging? Locate requests are a minimum of 5 days wait time
  • Where you are digging? This will include address and description of area the digging is being done in  
  • The type of work being done (fence, pool, landscaping, etc.) and the method of digging that will be used whether machine and/or hand (shovel, pick, or spade)
