Tile Drain Loans

Installing tile drainage is a very common land improvement practice among farmers in Ontario. Corrugated plastic tubing, clay and concrete drain tile are installed beneath the surface of agricultural land to drain excess water from the crop root zone.

Landowners in the Municipality that are planning to install a tile drainage system on their agricultural land are eligible for a tile drain loan, as authorized by the Tile Drainage Act.

To start the loan process, please complete the application form and return it to the Municipal Office:

  • Application Form for a Tile Drain Loan - Form 6
  • Tile Drain Loan Program Information from the Province of Ontario
  • Agricultural Drainage Licensing Fact Sheet FAQ from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
  • All requests must include a drawing to show the lands that will be drained.
  • If applicable, a letter from the mortgage holder consenting to the tile drainage loan must accompany the application.
  • If the project directly impacts a natural watercourse approval from Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority may be required.

  • All requests are subject to the availability of funds. At both the time of application and the time the funds are to be paid.
  • All property taxes must be brought to a current status before the Municipality can proceed with the tile drainage loan.
  • Loans are limited to the lesser of 75% of the eligible costs requested or 75% of eligible costs as approved by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA). The annual maximum loan to any farmer is $50,000.
  • All loans have a 10 year term and are repaid in your final two property tax installments each year. The loan can also be repaid in full at any time.
  • Invoices must be submitted to the Municipality for processing the tile drain loan. A sketch showing the extend of tiling must accompany the invoices.
  • The Municipality must be notified at the time of the tile installation, and a inspection fee may apply.
  • Work must be performed by a contractor approved by OMAFRA/licensed under the Agricultural Tile Drainage Installation Act.
