Animal Services

Animal Control ensures a safe and healthy environment for both residents and animals in our Municipality.

Our Animal Control Officer provides animal control services to the Municipality of Brockton and enforces the Municipality's Dog Control By-Law 2020-082.

Pets

The Municipality of Brockton is home to a diverse range of pets and companion animals. Before bringing an exotic pet home, such as a monkey, spider, lizard or snake, please review the Municipality of Brockton's By-Law 99-88 to ensure you are aware of the regulations and prohibition of the keeping certain animals.

Cats

The Municipality of Brockton does not have a cat by-law. Cat owners have a responsibility to keep their cat on their property, using a leash or harness if necessary. Owners are responsible to vaccinate and neuter or spay their cat to prevent attracting stray cats to the area.

Dogs

All dogs in Brockton must be licenced each year, wear their dog tag at all times, be kept on a leash when off the premise of the owner and owners must abide by "poop and scoop" regulations.

Owners are allowed to keep a maximum of three (3) dogs. If you would like to keep more than three (3) dogs, you must apply for a Kennel Licence.

We encourage every owner to read Brockton's Dog Control By-Law 2020-082 which outlines regulations around dogs in Brockton.

If you have any concerns about dogs in Brockton contact our Animal Control Officer by Email or call 519-881-2223 Ext. 141.

All registered dog owners receive their annual invoice by mail and dogs will continue to wear their permanent tag.

If you have a new dog, or are a dog owner who is new to Brockton, you must register and licence any dog greater than six (6) months old, with the Municipality on or before the 1st day of April in each and every year (or immediately after the dog reaches six (6) months of age where that takes place after April 1st).

Registration expires on the 31st day of December each year in which the tag was issued.

Please visit the Municipal Office to register your dog and receive your permanent dog tag or fill out the Dog Tag Form and submit to the By-Law Enforcement Officer.

Upon the death, sale or other disposal of the dog, the tag shall be returned to the Municipality of Brockton prior to March 1 following the January invoices when the invoiced amount shall be cancelled. Any outstanding or late payments after March 1 shall be added to the final tax bill. Please inform the Municipality of Brockton if you no longer have a dog so we may update our registry.

If your dog's tag is lost, please visit the Municipal Office to purchase a replacement tag. Fees for replacement tags are listed below.

Dog license fees are set annually and invoices are mailed to registered dog owners. Dog owners listed on the register will be invoiced in January annually as per the fees prescribed by the Municipal Consolidated Fee By-Law.
