Adjustment Requests

It is your responsibility to ensure your school support information is correct on your tax bill and on the voters' list.

If you wish to change your school support please review the following information and fill out the appropriate form to start the process.

Change of School Support Designation through MPAC

Property owners in Ontario are required to support a school board, even if they do not have children or their children are not currently attending school. In the case of a residential property occupied by tenants, the tenants can direct the school support for that property. By default, school support is directed to your municipality’s English Public School Board.

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is legislatively required to collect school support information and provide it in the assessment roll to every municipality and school board. By ensuring that you are supporting the school board of your choosing, you will be able to vote in the next municipal and school board election for trustees in that school board. Property owners, occupants, and tenants can update their school support designation online at mpac.ca/schoolsupport.

Voter's List

It is important to confirm that you are on the Voters' List.

Visit Elections Ontario's Voter Registration service to ensure your information is up-to-date.

Add or Remove Occupants From Your Property

  • Did you move from a home you owned, to a rental property?
  • Have your adult children permanently left home?
  • Do you have new tenants?

If you answer yes to one of these questions, you may need to update the occupancy or school board support information for your property.

We encourage all Brockton property owners to contact MPAC directly to remove or add occupants to their property and update school board support information. Notifying MPAC of these occupancy changes will help to make our Voters' List more accurate.

  • Gross or manifest clerical/factual error
  • Building damaged and substantially unusable

Eligible persons can apply for property tax relief against property tax increases on eligible property in accordance with County of Bruce By-Law 4087. The program, in accordance with Section 319 of the Municipal Act, 2001, allows for property tax increases in excess of $500.00 to be deferred until the eligible property is sold, or the person ceases to be an eligible person for a period of two consecutive years. At which time all tax relief ceases and all deferred tax amounts, together with accumulated interest  become a debt payable to the Municipality.

If you fit the definition of an eligible person and own eligible property, as defined in the by-law, please fill out an Application for Deferral of Taxes for Low-Income Seniors and Low-Income Disabled Residents.

The deadline for completing this form is December 31 of the taxation year to which the application applies.
