Paying Property Taxes

The following options are available for making property tax payments with the Municipality.

The Municipality of Brockton offers e-billing services in order to process Property Tax bills more efficiently. Residents can receive these bills by email as opposed to regular mail. Receiving your bills by email will allow you to easily file these important documents electronically for future reference. Further, you will be able to access these bills wherever you have e-mail access.

You can sign up to have pre-authorized payments debited from your bank account for property taxes, monthly or on the bill due date. We also allow for accounts receivable services to be paid using pre-authorized payment plans.

Post-dated cheques can be submitted to the Municipal Office and will be posted for the date of the cheque.

Returned Cheques

Cheques not honoured by your bank will result in a charge of $45.00 being added to your account. Please ensure that your cheques are signed and filled out completely.

Telephone and online banking payments can be made through most major financial institutions. You can also make in-person bill payments at most bank branches.

Property Taxes:

  • Use the 19 digit roll number for your account number.
  • Your tax roll number appears on your tax bill and looks like this: 4104-010-002-01890-0000

Payment with your Credit Card or Debit Card can be made using Paymentus Customer Payment Portal.

Please be advised that all payments processed through Paymentus are charged at 2.5% service fee which is added to your total prior to processing. Payments must be greater than $1.00.

Enter Account Information

When using Paymentus to make a payment:

  1. Select the payment type.
  2. Enter your account number.
  3. Enter and re-enter your email address (this is the email that the payment receipt will be mailed to).
  4. Click Continue
    • If the information is correct, you will be directed to enter your payment information.
    • If the information does not match our records, and error message will pop up. Review your information to ensure accurate entry. If the error persists, please contact the Municipal Office for assistance at 519-881-2223.

Enter Payment Information

  1. The First and Last Name will pre-populate based on the primary owner of that account. The current total amount due on the account will also pre-populate based on the account information entered previously. Please change any information to reflect who is paying the account. You can also change the amount you wish to pay, if desired.
  2. Enter phone number (this field is mandatory).
  3. Select the payment method (either Debit Card or Credit Card).
  4. Enter the card information in full.
  5. Click continue.

Confirm Payment

A summary of your payment method, date, payment amount and the service fee will display. Please be advised that the service fee does not reflect on your account with the Municipality and is in addition to the payment amount. 

  1. Read the Payment Authorization Terms.
  2. Click the check box to authorize the payment including the service fee. (Required)
  3. Click Pay

Payment Confirmation/Payment Failed

A payment confirmation screen or payment failed screen will appear. If the payment has failed, the funds will not be made to the account.

You can proceed to make another payment on the account or return to the Municipality of Brockton website home page. 

Please ensure your account number for online payments is correct! Remember to check your account numbers for all online payment submissions! 

Tax accounts are 19 digits long and begin with 41-04.

Utility account numbers are 14 digits and begin with 3.

This will ensure payments are applied to the correct account, and will assist in avoiding any additional fees due to late payments.

Payments may be made in person at the Municipal Office using:

  • Cash
  • Cheque, made payable to 'Municipality of Brockton'
  • Debit Card

Payments can be placed in our After Hours Drop Box, located at the Municipal Office (100 Scott Street, Walkerton) main entrance, please: 

  • Make cheques payable to 'Municipality of Brockton'
  • Include your payment stub 

To avoid penalties or interest charges, your property tax payment must be received by our office on, or before, the due date.

Penalty and interest charges for late payment are set by Municipal By-Law in accordance with the Municipal Act.

Penalty is applicable on the first day of default and on the first day of each calendar month thereafter in which default continues as set out in the Municipal Act. The penalty rate is 1.25% per month or 15% per annum. The Treasurer and/or other staff cannot waive penalty.
