Commissioner of Oaths
The Municipality of Brockton provides the services of a Commissioner of Oaths during regular business hours. The Commissioner is able to witness signatures of certain documents, taking your oath or solemn affirmation for an affidavit or statutory declaration.
Please note that we do not have a Notary Public on staff and do not notarize documents. Please ensure that the document can be signed by a Commissioner of Oaths.
Commissioning Guidelines:
Do not sign the document ahead of time - You must sign the document in front of the Commissioner in order to have your signature witnessed by the Commissioner.
- In order to have a document commissioned all parties required to sign the document must be present and must provide valid photo identification such as a driver's license or health card.
- The Commissioner will first review the document to determine if the document meets their approval. We reserve the right to refuse commissioning services of any document.
- If the paperwork is in order, all parties named in the document will then affirm or swear an oath of truth, sign the document in front of the Commissioner, and the Commissioner will then sign and stamp the document.
- Please note that documents that are in any language other than English will not be commissioned, as we cannot validate the information that is affirmed.
- The fee for commissioning is $16.95.
We strongly recommend you call the Municipal Office in advance to book an appointment. This will ensure there is a Commissioner of Oaths available when you plan to attend the office for your commissioning.
