Brockton Child Care Manager, Sharon Bross Announces Retirement After 38 Years of Service
Brockton, Ontario (January 7, 2025) – The Municipality of Brockton announces that Sharon Bross, Child Care Manager at the Brockton Child Care Centre, will retire effective January 13, 2025.
Sharon has dedicated over three decades to Brockton’s child care sector, beginning her career at the Brockton Child Care Centre in September 1986 as a Registered Early Childhood Education (RECE) teacher. She was promoted to Child Care Supervisor in the early 1990s and has since been an integral part of the center’s growth and success. Sharon’s leadership has helped shape the child care landscape in Brockton, responding to the community’s evolving needs and demands.
Over the course of her 38-year career, Sharon played a pivotal role in the expansion of the Brockton Child Care Centre. Under her leadership, the center transitioned from its former location at the Armoury, where it served fewer than 50 children, to the current location at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School. This expansion increased the center’s capacity to serve 78 children. In 2020, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sharon led another significant expansion, increasing capacity to 117 licensed childcare spaces and an additional 106 school-aged spaces. She achieved this while overseeing a dedicated team of more than 25 childcare professionals.
"Sharon's leadership at the Brockton Child Care Centre has been invaluable, and her absence will be deeply felt as we look ahead to the continued demand for childcare spaces in our community," said Chief Administrative Officer, Sonya Watson. "Sharon led with intense dedication and passion for the childcare field and provided valuable input in the recent Childcare Organizational Review. This review will help prepare the center for the future as the community continues to grow. I wish her all the best in her upcoming retirement."
Mayor Peabody also expressed gratitude for Sharon’s service: "I want to thank Sharon for her dedication to serving our community as a leader in the childcare field. The Brockton Child Care Centre plays a crucial role in the healthy growth and development of children, as well as the economic viability of a growing community. Sharon’s work has not only helped shape the direction of our organization but has also had a profound and lasting impact on the many families served."
Recruitment efforts to find a new Child Care Manager will commence immediately.
